HISTORY OF EASTPOINTE COMMUNITY CHURCH
In 1985, Pastor Shon’s parents, J. Dwight and Mary Burchett, founded Life Christian Ministries. God’s hand has been seen upon their lives throughout the 45 years of ministry to 1000’s of families. Not only has a strong church been established in Oklahoma City, but throughout the years Dwight has had a love for the mission field which has included countries like Russia, Philippines, Haiti, Honduras, Africa, Israel and many more. In 1998, Shon’s father felt the mantel was shifting from him to his son. In 2002 Shon and Rachel took over as lead pastors of Life Christian Ministries, but it was not long until the Lord began to deal with Pastor Shon’s heart about changing the name of the church. So in November of 2004, the strategy began to unfold.
The journey began for Eastpointe Community Church in April 2006 to become a progressive, non-denominational church that teaches Biblical truth in a practical way that people can walk into their Monday applying what they have learned. With 6 core values, Eastpointe has established a firm foundation to build upon for many years to come. With a great history and heritage, Pastor Shon and Rachel expect to continue in God’s blessing and to see that blessing passed down generation to generation.
At Eastpointe Community Church, our aim is to Pastor the Midwest, Influence the Nation, and Change the World, and part of our vision for growth is reflected in the emerging influence of the church in Oklahoma City. Shon & Rachel have a heart to see people gain an understanding of who they are in Christ and take daily steps in fulfilling their God given-destiny.
